The bank reported earnings per share of $0.63, which was higher than the $0.59 analysts expected. Revenue reached about 12.1 billion dollars, also beating the 11.9 billion dollar target. This growth was led by the bank's business in Mexico, which remains its most profitable market and a core part of its strategy.
Management also raised its outlook for the year, now expecting a return on tangible equity, a measure of how much profit the bank generates from its shareholders' money, of around 21 percent. To share these gains, the bank plans to spend 2.3 billion dollars on a new share buyback, which reduces the total number of shares and makes each remaining share more valuable.
The bank is changing its top team, including naming a new Chief Financial Officer and a new leader for its critical Mexico division. These moves are part of a plan to simplify how the bank is run and better use artificial intelligence to serve customers.
Since Mexico generates over half of the bank's total profits, the new leadership there will be under close watch. This reshuffle shows the bank is leaning into its digital-first strategy to keep its costs lower than traditional rivals.

Spain's High Court has ordered the bank to stand trial for its alleged role in a corporate espionage case involving bribery and the disclosure of secrets. The case also names the bank's former chairman, Francisco Gonzalez, and follows a long-running probe into the bank's past activities.
While this case relates to events from years ago, it remains a distraction for current management. A trial could lead to fines or damage the bank's reputation, though it does not change the day-to-day profits from its banking operations in Mexico and Spain.

Analysts have been quiet recently, with the last rating change occurring well before the company's latest earnings report. Most analysts are positive, with 7 of 13 rating the stock a buy, though there is no average price target available.
The bank has beaten analyst profit targets for eight straight quarters. This shows management is consistently better at controlling costs and growing in Mexico than the market expects.
