What's happening with the stock

Bird Construction rose about 2 percent today, extending a 10 percent run over the last week that has it closing in on its recent highs. We think this is mostly a delayed reaction to a very strong earnings report and growing interest in the companies that build AI data centers.

Our view

The record $12 billion backlog provides a very clear view of the company's income for the next few years. If you already own it, there is nothing to do here but sit tight and watch the data center projects ramp up.

Demand for data center equipment and infrastructure is rising

Companies that make heavy machinery and power equipment are pivoting to meet the massive demand for AI data centers. These facilities require specialized power systems and complex infrastructure to handle the high energy needs of AI chips.

This trend is a positive sign for Bird Construction. The company is shifting its focus toward technical infrastructure and has already secured a major 300 MW data center project. As more firms look to build out this specialized capacity, Bird is well-positioned to win the high-margin construction and management contracts that smaller rivals cannot handle.

Quarterly earnings topped analyst expectations

Bird Construction earned about 49 cents per share last quarter, beating the 42 cents that analysts expected. Revenue reached 730 million dollars, which was also higher than the 670 million dollars predicted by Wall Street.

The results show that the company is successfully moving into more profitable, technical projects like marine services and industrial fabrication. With a record backlog of 12 billion dollars in future work, Bird has a clear path to continue this growth as it begins major AI data center projects later this year.

BIRDF analyst price targets
