On August 20, the company finished selling 1.1 billion dollars in new debt. The offering was split between 600 million dollars in notes due in 2031 and 500 million dollars due in 2036. These are senior secured notes, meaning they are backed by company assets and sit high on the list of priorities for repayment.
While taking on debt adds to interest costs, the company is using a portion of these proceeds to pay down its existing revolving credit line. This is a routine way for a large hospital operator to turn short-term borrowing into fixed, long-term debt, providing more certainty for its cash flow over the next decade.

Universal Health Services has officially closed its deal to buy Talkspace, a leading provider of online therapy. This move connects the company's 346 physical mental health facilities with a digital platform that reaches patients at home.
This is a key step in the company's strategy to dominate behavioral health. By owning both the hospitals and the digital tools, the company can find patients earlier and keep them within its network for longer. If the integration goes well, it should help the behavioral health arm continue to be the most reliable driver of profit for the business.
